About Avedøre Holme

Denmark's largest office building, Center Syd, is the gateway to one of the largest business districts in Denmark. Some 9,000 workplaces are spread out in approx. 375 companies. Here you'll find windmills, gravel pit, power plant, waste water centre, bread and liquorice plants and much more.

Originally, Avedøre Holme consisted of a number of islets, dammed for industrial purposes in the 1960s. Center Syd was established by the businessman Boje Nielsen in the 1970s.

The district heating station had its 50m tall chimney decorated by the painter Johnny Oehlenschlæger.

Bus: 200S, 18, 137 or 139 from Friheden Station. 500S between Ørestad Station and Kokkedal Station.

There are no public seating areas or public toilets.

Routes and activities

Take your bicycle or a walk up upon the dam around Avedøre Holme, and enjoy the view over the bay of Køge Bugt, the smell of seaweed and the buzz from the windmills. Find the path from the harbour of Brøndby Havn and from Kystholmen, among others.

You can walk or ride your bike across the bridge Kalvebodbroen to Amager.

Once a year, the companies and the public employees in Hvidovre compete in the running event "Holmestafetten".
